What do you love most about Shimmery Burlesque?

Shimmery burlesque is so unique. It’s been the only time in my life where I could use such a variety of skills all in the one place. I love the feeling of freedom that being on the stage gives me, the sense of empowerment when I bring my personality to all the choreography and the friendships and camaraderie that comes from being part of this cast. It’s a time of absolute joy
in my life that I will never forget and be forever grateful for.

When did you become a performer?

I started my dancing journey at the age of 4 with a local ballet school in regional Victoria and continued with Ballet for a further 16 years. Alongside this journey I was a ballroom dancer and assistant teacher, competing in interstate and nation competitions, winning various titles across all ballroom styles. Choreography and styling became a passion and I often assisted with ‘editing’ dancers existing routines. Currently I have acquired over 20 years of ballroom and Latin dance
experience. Theatre was always a passion of mine throughout secondary school and I was fortunate enough to be able to dance, sing and act in many school and amateur theatre productions.

"The stage is my safe space and entertaining an audience brings me so much joy, it's addictive."

How did you start doing Burlesque dancing?

9 years ago, I decided to enrol in a pole dancing class for the fitness and sense of having some time solely for myself. As it turned out there was no class available at a time, I could attend so the receptionist suggested I might like to try their Burlesque classes instead. I did and with the
mentoring of Australia’s best, I performed as a solo artist in 2018 and have not looked back.

When did you become a Shimmery Showgirl?

I went to see the show and was absolutely blown away by the beauty and indescribable joy I felt watching it. I had no words to adequately describe to my friends what a wonder it was, that it felt like being in a dreamscape so I took them to see for themselves. This year, however when I saw the audition posted, I literally cleared my calendar and applied. It was an unrealised dream of mine to be on a professional stage, the “big time”, and I wanted it so bad I could taste it. Every ounce of my being focused on the audition and I was so proud of what I had done that the success of the audition would have been enough for me. When I was accepted as part of Shimmery, I couldn’t believe it! I cried with all the feels for days. The feeling of stepping on a stage again made me feel like I was in my 20’s again and truly felt reborn. The stage is my safe space and entertaining an audience brings me so much joy, it's addictive.
